About Me
I came to the Feldenkrais Method® from the world of professional dance, where I worked for more than two decades, dancing, teaching and choreographing. (You can read more about my dance life here).
In 2011, I retired from performing with a professional dance company. I was tired and I was in pain. I had many “old dancer” issues: a cranky hip, arthritic toes, stiffness in my feet and back. Getting up in the morning involved a ritual for preparing myself for the discomfort that came with standing up. While I was always committed to regular bodywork, and to strength and conditioning training, I feared that the pain I was in was inevitable.
I was also considering what else I might do next, and I decided to follow my curiosity about movement. My dance career had exposed me to many somatic modalities and practices, but the Feldenkrais Method® just seemed to fit me. The more I studied it, the more my body healed. I wasn’t stiff in every morning. I could teach ballet class and not feel like I’d been run over afterward. I could go on a long bike ride without my calf cramping, I could run and actually enjoy it. And the inevitable aches and pains of life and aging crop up, the Feldenkrais Method® gave me an approach for figuring out what I need.
But what has been the biggest gift is recognizing the magnificence of the body –of EVERYbody. Every person –every body –of any age, gender, ethnic heritage, shape, size, or religion is worthy and valuable.
Everyone is magnificent. Everyone is invaluable. Everyone deserves care.
Through the Feldenkrais Method®, I have discovered so much I can’t easily quantify it. It’s not just relief from discomfort; it’s the sense that I’m grounded and centered in my self. It helps me to see more clearly what is affecting me in the moment, and what my responses mean.
It’s not easy to describe. The experience of it is the best recommendation!
